WE BELIEVE

Our Statement of Beliefs

We Believe in one, true, living God.  We believe that He is the Maker of all creation, that He is all-knowing, all-powerful, and everywhere-present.  We believe that He is our eternal Father, the source of all goodness, truth, and love.  We believe that He has revealed Himself in His Son, Jesus Christ, for the purpose of redemption and as the Holy Spirit for the purpose of intervening in the lives of people. (Deuteronomy 6:4; II Corinthians 13:14; 1Timothy 1:17; 3:16; 6:13-16)We Believe that God inspired the Scriptures, and that the original manuscripts of the Old and New Testaments of the Bible are the Word of God given through people.  We believe that the Scriptures we read today are the sufficient rule of faith and life and the final authority for truth and salvation. (II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:20-21)We Believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ, which declares Him to be the only begotten Son of God, Who was born of a virgin and Who lived to show us the words and works of God. As the Savior He was crucified and died on the cross in our place to be the supreme sacrifice for sin. He was buried in a tomb but rose again the third day, as the Scriptures foretold, and is now exalted as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  We believe that Jesus is God manifested in the flesh – He is true God and true man.  In Jesus Him dwells the fullness of God.  (Acts 10:38-40; I Corinthians 15:1-4; Colossians 2:9)We Believe in salvation as wholly the work of God's free grace, not the result, in whole or in part, of human works or goodness.  God offers salvation to people on the basis of Jesus' death on the cross as payment for our sin.  Jesus triumphed over death in His resurrection and now occupies His position of exaltation at God's right hand.  To be saved, a person must repent of sin, trust in Jesus alone as Savior, and receive the risen Christ as Lord of his or her life.  This expresses the core of the Christian faith – what is called the Gospel (good news). Belief in the gospel is required for a person to be a Christian.  (Romans 10:9-10; John 1:12; 3:16)We Believe in baptism in water - a declaration to the world that a believer has died with Christ and that they have been raised with Him to walk in newness of life.  (Matthew 28:19; Acts 10:47: Romans 6:4)We Believe in the celebration of the Lord's Supper by eating the bread and drinking from the cup as a remembrance of Jesus.  (II Corinthians 11:24-30)We Believe that all believers are entitled to, and should ardently expect and earnestly seek the “promise of the Father”, the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, according to the command of Jesus Christ.  With the Baptism of the Holy Spirit comes the endowment of supernatural power for life and service, the imparting of gifts for use in the work of the ministry.  This experience is distinct from and following the experience of salvation.  (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4-8; 2:38-39; 10:44046; 11:14-16; 15:7-9; I Corinthians 12:1-31)We Believe in practicing genuine Christianity.  This is expressed through love for God and people, prayer, obedience to the Word of God, heartfelt worship and expressive praise, sharing our faith, commitment to our marriage and families, availability to help one another in time of need, honesty, and diligence in our employment, honor and respect for our government as it submits to the divine plan for society, and the dedication of our time, talent and treasure to advance the Kingdom of God on earth.  (Romans 12:12; Colossians 3-4)
